On Sunday June 22nd at approximately 2:30 pm, we were dispatched to a
multiple vehicle rollover on Interstate 481 in the Town of Clay, NY. Our
first arriving Chief confirmed that report and notified units that one
patient was trapped under a pickup truck, with the driver still trapped in
the vehicle. Upon Rescue 4's arrival of the rollover, we noticed a tow
truck driver had stopped and was assisting by lifting the vehicle off of
the patient using his hook connected to the front bumper hooks of the
rolled over pickup truck.  This was extremely helpful to our
operation, however as we approached the vehicle, we observed that the
pickup truck was still very unstable and was beginning to lean to one
side. We then decided to "special" call in our Rescue 3 and
their Rescue Struts. Once the Junkyard Dogs were effectively in place, we
were able to free the trapped victim under the vehicle, as well as the
driver of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver did not survive the
crash.

We used the rescue struts this AM (March 9, 2008), WORKED GREAT!  Single vehicle roll-over landed in the roadway on its roof.  Elderly woman driving, who was trapped in the vehicle on arrival.  Basically used the two long struts to stabilize the rear end then cut the C-posts, dropped the roof down and slid her out the back.  The vehicle remained rock-solid stable the entire time.  Arrival to extrication complete was 16 minutes.   Fire Chief Ross Hoham, Hamilton FD NY
